Harvard Appoints Its First Chair of Jewish History

Harvard recently appointed Dr. Derek Penslar to hold the first chair of Jewish History in the university's history department. Professor Penslar currently teaches at the University of Toronto and Oxford. His work on modern Jewish history and in particular the history of Zionism and Israel makes him one of the leading Jewish historians of his generation. He is the author of several works and the forthcoming biography of Herzl for the Yale Jewish Lives series.
